Two arrested in Elgin face charges relating to human trafficking

POLICE HAVE MADE two arrests in Elgin in connection to an investigation undertaken into alleged human trafficking.

A 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were detained by officers from the Public Protection Unit and partner agencies.

As a result of the arrests a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Alan Armit, who led the operation, said: “I would like to thank those who provided information to us in connection with this inquiry.

“Human Trafficking investigations are complex and uniquely challenging in nature, involving the support and coordination of a number of partners.

“Awareness of this type of criminality by members of the public is critical in the identification of potential victims and offenders, and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101 or The Modern Slavery Helpline on 0800 0121700.”
