FURTHER CONCERNS OVER local bus timetables in Moray have prompted another meeting between local MSP Richard Lochhead and the Stagecoach North managing director.
Mr Lochhead has been reacting to complaints from constituents over the reshaping of services earlier this month, in particular the removal of the direct bus service linking Elgin and Inverness Airport.
After requesting a meeting with Mark Whitelocks to discuss these, a February 9 date has been set – and the MSP is inviting bus users to share their views with him ahead of that meeting.
Mr Lochhead said: “Since the local timetable changes kicked in at the start of January I’ve been contacted by a number of local bus users who have concerns about how the new timetables are actually working in practice.
“Folk in the community are really unhappy at the removal of the direct link between Elgin and Inverness Airport in particular, with passengers now having to travel to Nairn and wait for a connection to the airport.
“There are some understandable concerns around the impact this will have on tourism and the local economy, as the direct link was previously a real boost to the area.
“Other general concerns around reliability of services since the changes were implemented have also been raised with me, with passengers experiencing frustration at services being late and there not being enough time built into the timetable to allow services to run punctually.
“I’m pleased the Managing Director of Stagecoach has agreed to meet me discuss these issues and the impact timetable changes are having on passengers, and I’d encourage local bus users to get in touch to share their views ahead of my meeting so I can raise their concerns directly with him.”
