Spirit of Speyside named as a Homecoming Scotland ‘signature event’

The Spirit of Speyside whisky festival could be set to attract some major musical talent after it was named as a ‘signature event’ in Scotland’s Homecoming Year.

Homecoming Scotland has selected events around the country in 2014 with such as the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games receiving additional funding to help them promote and celebrate Scotland around the world.

The Festival has grown in popularity each year with the 2013 event generating £1.6million into the local economy with 32,000 visitors flocking to the region – a 30% increase on the previous year.

As a Homecoming Scotland signature event, Spirit of Speyside will receive funding to be used for musicians – now the organisers are asking the public for their views on what acts that should be.

Festival chairman James Campbell said: “We are very excited about this – the music should attract a different crowd as we as offer something interesting to whisky lovers.

“We want to put on music events all over the region during the five days of the festival, so people will not have far to travel to find extra things to do during the evening.

“If it goes well and is well supported by visitors and local people, we are going to look at making it an annual feature.”
