A SPEYSIDE HOTEL is in celebration mode this week after being shortlisted in two categories for the prestigious Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards.
In the latest critical acclaim for the business which only opened its doors 18 months ago the Station Hotel in Rothes has been shortlisted in the best restaurant and best new business section of the awards.
The hotel has fast become a firm favourite with both business and leisure travellers and its two restaurants – the a la carte Pagodas and the more informal Toots – are often booked out weeks in advance.
General manager Neil Slessor told insideMoray: “The provenance of our food and drink is very important to us, and we try wherever possible to use local suppliers, whether that’s meat from the butcher in the town or whisky from any one of the multitude of distilleries that are in a 50-mile radius of Rothes.
“Our menus are seasonal and change regularly depending on the availability of ingredients. We have a really great team in the kitchen: they are not only very talented chefs but really creative in how they use ingredients to produce exceptional food.
“Being shortlisted is a huge honour for us. Much of the success is down to feedback from the local community and the way in which they have embraced what we are doing at the hotel. There are not many other awards finalists from the local area, so we are incredibly proud to be flying the flag for Moray Speyside.”
Only 34 businesses made the prestigious awards shortlist that spanned 13 diverse categories. Delivered in support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the awards celebrate quality, innovation and growth in one of Scotland’s most prosperous industries.
The awards have now been running for 13 years and showcase the diversity and excellence of the region’s food and drink industry, contributing to the reputation of Highlands and Islands as a world food destination.
Winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony hosted by celebrated food critic, journalist and broadcaster Jay Rayner at the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness on October 20.
