Residents warned as Moray village is hit by spate of thefts

Milne’s High School – lead stolen.

Householders in a Moray community are being warned to take particular care as a spate of thefts on homes and public buildings has been taking place.

Residents in and around Fochabers have been hit with power tools and gardening equipment stolen from a house in Lennox Crescent – while the nearby Milne’s High School building had a quantity of lead stolen from its roof.

The thefts follow a number of similar incidents in the area, prompting police and local politicians to issue warnings that residents should take particular care over the holiday.

Investigating the thefts is Constable Mike Harvey, who has appealed for information after a £1000 black Kawasaki motorcycle was also taken from the nearby parking area at Deer Park on the A98 between Fochabers and Tynet.

Thefts from the High School took pace on three separate nights when thieves disabled security lighting around the building – the lead they subsequently removed is thought to be worth several thousand pounds.

Local councillor Douglas Ross said: “I know that local officers are working hard to catch those responsible and to deter others from attempting similar crimes.

“But it is important that local people play their part by being vigilant – locking doors and sheds and reporting any suspicious people or activities in the area to police.

“At this time of year there are always items of financial and quite often sentimental value around our homes – and unfortunately criminals will seek any opportunity to steal from people.”
