Moray women mean business

Finalists for a glittering award ceremony which recognises the achievements of women in business from across the region have been announced.

Nine women from eight different Moray-based businesses have made it to the final of the Moray Business Women Awards.

The winners will be announced at an awards ball which will take place in the Stotfield Hotel in Lossiemouth on 17 November.

The categories are Business Women of the Year, Most Enterprising Business and Member of Achievement, the winner of which is voted for by fellow Moray Business Women members.

Sharon Robertson, president of the Club said the quality of entries for the awards was high: “It is great to see that we have such a vibrant business community in Moray with so many different sectors being represented. We had entries from a range of businesses and I am glad to say that I was not a judge as the standard of entries was so high – it must have been such a tough a job. However, the finalists that have been chosen are well deserved and we wish them every success on the night.”

The finalists were decided on by a panel of judges.

Finalists in the Most Enterprising Business of the Year category are: Before I Go run by Jane Duncan Rogers, B is for Brand run by Ailsa Stinson and Wild Blossom Floristry which is run by Caroline Byrne and Beverley Alexander.

Moray Business Women of the year finalists are Sarah Baxter, operations manager with DYW Moray, Claire Doughty of Claire Doughty Publicity, and Clare Lock of Clockstudio

The Member of Achievement finalists are Kirsty Watson and Alison Read.

Sam Dowdall, vice-president of the Club and winner of Moray Business Women last year added: “Congratulations to all the finalists. All of these women are at different stages of their careers, but they all deserve to be in the final. They are a small representation of what is a very large business community in Moray being led by women. I was delighted to win last year, and it meant so much to be recognised.”

Each year, the members of MBW select a charity to work with. Working closely with the chosen charity they put their efforts together and campaign to raise awareness for the charity and funds.

For 2018, the Moray Business Women has been raising money for Defibs For Moray.

Sam added: “Working with the team at Defibs For Moray has been a great experience. They hosted one of our events and it was a real eye opener to see what they do throughout the region. We will be announcing our 2019 charity in December.”
