AN OPEN INVITATION has been made to Moray golfers for an event to mark the Centenary of Scottish veterans’ charity, Erskine.

A local volunteer group is organising a team golf day in aid of Erskine at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club on Wednesday, September 21. Teams of four are invited to enter and enjoy a round at the course, voted Scottish Golf Course of the Year 2015.

Players will be served coffee and bacon rolls on arrival and a two course meal at the end of their round – with entry for teams of four set at £200.

There will be prizes for the top three teams and the “closest to the pin” at two holes followed by a raffle in the clubhouse. Golfers will also have the option of a warm up session with Club Professional, David Torrance, who was recently named Coach of the Year at the Annodata Scottish Golf Awards.

The original Erskine Hospital opened in 1916 to treat casualties returning from World War 1. Today, Erskine provides unrivalled nursing, residential, respite and dementia care for over 1,000 veterans and their spouses each year in their four care homes in Scotland.

Jen Abbott is helping to organising the event: “I come from an armed forces family, and with Erskine marking their Centenary of caring for our veterans, we thought it would be a very poignant time to have a charity golf day.

“We already have a team entered from Cullen Golf Club and would love to welcome many more Moravians to enjoy a day’s golf.”

Erskine’s Community Fundraiser for the North of Scotland, Michael Parkes, who is based in Buckie, looked forward to the event, adding: “Jen and all of the volunteers are doing a fantastic job in organising the golf day.

“It should be a great way to mark the area’s rich service history, whilst also raising vital funds to help continue to support Erskine’s veterans.”
