GALA SEASON IS well in swing at communities throughout Moray – and one community well known for a taking a new look at these traditional celebrations is ensuring that their 2016 event gets off with a bang.

The Hopeman Gala’s centrepiece this year will draw attention from music fans throughout Moray and perhaps beyond, as they have booked the services of one of the UK’s best ABBA tribute bands.

‘ABBA-Like’ have been booked in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the iconic Swedish group, who in the last week sung together for the first time in many years when they appeared on the same stage to celebrate the anniversary.

Hopeman Gala’s convener Daren Nelson told insideMoray: “Our opening day this year will again be a Fete with the evening taken up by the band ‘ABBA-Alike’, who will be travelling all the way from Cumbria to appear in Hopeman.

“Doors will open at 7pm [on July 16] and there will be a licensed bar and disco for the evening – and, of course, we are encouraging people to get into the ABBA spirit by dressing up accordingly, although I stress that is not mandatory!

“We are sure that most people will agree that this is a really fun night to get our Gala off with a bang.”

The opening night is the main fundraising effort for the eight-day long Gala which itself is celebrating its 42nd year. Tickets are on sale now at £10 and are available from Hopeman Stores, Hopeman Costcutters and the Braemou Inn.
