Man appears facing charges for Cullen knife incident

A MAN HAS appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court in connection to a robbery at a Cullen newsagents earlier this week.

The owner of the Cullen Paper Shop was alleged to have been robbed at knifepoint early on Thursday morning at his premises on The Square in the Moray town.

Ryan Campbell, 29, appeared in court yesterday after being detained by police within hours of the incident, the alert having been raised by several members of the public.

Campbell, whose address was given as being in South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody with his case committed for further examination.

Police had rushed to the scene shortly after 7am on Thursday before officers made door-to-door enquiries. It is understood that Campbell was detained close to the scene.
