Future-proof – Springfield to include car charging ports in all new homes

MORAY BASED HOUSE BUILDERS Springfield Properties will be one of the first in the UK to install cabling in all new homes suitable for charging electric cars.

All new homes built by the company will have power points using 7KW cabling required by such vehicles as standard.

Chief Executive Innes Smith said that it was their response to the Scottish Government pledge that all new vehicles sold in Scotland by 2032 would be electric. That, according to Mr Smith, will see a rapid uptake of such vehicles in the next ten years.

He said: “One of our values as a company is to include everything a customer needs in their new home – so, with this in mind, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our customers to go electric.”

The move was welcomed by Scotland’s Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf MSP, who said: “This is a welcome announcement – the ability to charge electric vehicles at home helps reduce barriers to ownership.”
