AROUND 2000 VISITORS are expected to roll up to a Moray farm later this month for a bi-annual event that has already raised thousands of pounds for local charities.

Pitgaveny Farm near Elgin will throw open their gates to the public on Sunday, May 28 when people young and old will be able to take a close up look at historical and modern farming methods side by side.

Previous open days have provided a major summer highlight for families who are able to try out traditional farming skills with farrier, shearing and sheepdog demonstrations throughout the day.

“At our last event people loved having the chance to drive tractors, see the animals buy quality food from local producers,” Rebecca Russel said of the open day, adding: “It’s also a superb opportunity to raise some funds for worthwhile causes.”

The beneficiaries from the day this year will be local charities Earthtime, Quarriers and the Rural Environmental Action Project (REAP).

On show this year will be Horse and Carriage rides alongside Tractor and Trailer trips around the farm and the country trail to Loch Spynie. Demonstrations will include the ever popular Sheepdog Trials while there will be a Farmers Market on site – and for the adults, the Spey Valley Brewery.

Entry to the day for the May 28 event from 11am until 4pm is £5 for adults with children under-15 admitted free of charge. It should be noted that no dogs are allowed and there is only limited wheelchair access.
