Elgin teen singer tribute charity song rockets up the iTunes chart

A 17-year-old Elgin singer/songwriter has said she just “can’t believe” that a charity single she produced as a tribute to her leukaemia-suffering boyfriend is roaring up the charts.

Elgin Academy pupil Lilian MacDonald released ‘Never be Alone’ as a downloadable single on iTunes earlier this week – now the single is shooting up the top 100 on the singles chart – and straight in at number one in the iTunes singer/songwriter chart.

All proceeds from the sale of the single will be going to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity.

Lilian told her Facebook followers: “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my charity single is currently at 82 in the official iTunes singles chart from pre-orders alone.

“I’m literally under Ed Sheeran right now in the singer/songwriter chart – insane! Please don’t stop sharing my video and pre-ordering the single, the more money and awareness raised the more likely a cure for blood cancer can be found.”

Within hours the single continued to progress rapidly towards the top 50.

Lilian launched her song with a video appeal on YouTube (see below) on which she says: “I wrote ‘Never be Alone’ in June of last year when my boyfriend was unfortunately diagnosed with leukaemia. If you were not already aware leukaemia is a cancer of the blood and it is all too common.

“When a child is diagnosed with cancer statistics say that there is a one in three chance that it will be leukaemia, with adults it is the ninth most common cancer. I truly believe that one day we will find a cure for all cancers – until then we need to fight and raise as much money as possible.”

Lilian’s track can be downloaded on iTunes (pre-order ahead of release on May 26) while donations to her chosen charity can be made at http://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/.
