Community Councils gear up for new elections

ELECTIONS ARE BEING prepared in Moray to fill 208 seats throughout the regions Community Council network.

Moray Council say that nomination packs are now available for those wishing to stand for the local community groups, which range in membership from between seven and 18 members.

Community Councils are involved in local issues from environmental projects to organising local events, campaigning on local issues or conducting surveys and organising local meetings.  Several councils in Moray have made a real difference in their communities, provide a vital link between diverse local communities and Moray Council.

Those wishing to serve will have until 4pm on Thursday, September 28 to lodge nomination papers with the returning officer at Moray Council’s election office.  If more candidates apply than seats available for any community council, an election will be held by postal ballot in October.

Generally, community councils meet locally once a month with each expected to choose from their number a chair, vice chair, treasurer and secretary.
