Moray College UHI and Moray Wellbeing Hub celebrated World Mental Health Day yesterday by launching a new partnership.

The aim of this partnership is to raise awareness and improve mental health within the college community.

It will build close relationships with local Third Sector organisations and Moray Health & Social Care, enabling them to deliver opportunities that promote self-management, recovery, peer-support and citizenship for the college community and people of Moray.

Heidi Tweedie said: “Moray Wellbeing Hub is a social enterprise that focuses on the ‘how’ rather than the ‘what’ to create change and increase the ‘mental wealth’ of Moray. We use the power of our own life experiences, combined with expertise in facilitation and research, to inspire and skill others to live life to the fullest, and be the change they want to see.”

Moray College UHI also offer students the opportunity to attend weekly peer support groups. Founded by Joel Hockney, who is now an alumni of the college, the peer support group was set up as a friendly, supportive environment that students can discuss personal well-being. Group facilitators that are current or former students use the principles of peer support and best practice approaches to support students’ well-being and help them recover from mental health challenges.

Student Advice Manager, Heather Henderson at Moray College UHI said: “We are delighted to be launching this unique partnership with Moray Wellbeing Hub on World Mental Health Day. Working together will allow us to offer support and opportunities for our students that are facing mental health challenges.”
