Moray’s most beautiful, but gruelling, challenge is back for 2019 with some major changes and more options than ever for participants.
Lossiemouth based outdoor learning and adventure charity, Outfit Moray, have introduced several new elements to their Cairngorm to Coast 2019 (C2C’19) event, including a bike only element and a ‘pay to play’ entry level.
Community and Corporate Fundraiser, Karen Cox, tells us, ‘We have been listening to feedback over the past couple of years and felt now was the right time to bring some of the suggestions into play.”
“The hike and bike element of the event is by far the most popular, but many bikers have asked if they can bike from the start point at Cairngorm Ski Centre carpark. As mountain biking is one of our main outdoor activities, it seemed only right that we challenged those bikers a bit more, so C2C’19 will have a bike only element added.”
This means participants can now choose to hike and bike or bike the whole 100km course, with the hike only option still available. Outfit Moray have also lowered the main entry age to 16, with the minimum accompanied age reduced to 10 for the hike, to enable more families to take part.
Cairngorm to Coast is the charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year and brings in vital unrestricted funds. CEO, Tony Brown, explains: “Outfit Moray is reliant on grant and trust fundraising to deliver our programme of activities for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people across Moray. Events like C2C bring in additional funds to help us continue this work, whilst enabling participants to have a great time in the most spectacular outdoor environment. Having reflected on C2C over the last few years, we are really excited to be able to open the event up to younger people as well, broadening its appeal and hopefully inspiring more young people to get outdoors”.
Outfit Moray hope the majority of participants will take on the Cairngorm to Coast challenge to raise funds for the charity, but they have also introduced a limited number of ‘pay to play’ entries, where participants pay a higher entry fee to participate without the need to collect sponsorship.
The 100km challenge takes place on 25th May 2019; more information is available on www.outfitmoray.com/c2c
